A Letter From Simone

About a year and a half ago Jamie and I were talking about styling—the good, the bad, the horror stories…all of it. We ended up talking about the tricks and hacks we’ve been using for years, but that buyers are missing in stores. We talked about the lines we love and those that were disappointing us with what they had to offer. We talked about what we wished was out there.

When we started to discuss the foundations of dressing—what undergarments we both use and for what—we discovered there was a huge opportunity. There’s no brand out there that has everything we’re looking for, most just satisfy one issue, serve one purpose, or address one “concern.” Here was this huge market, but as women, the process of finding the right undergarments is something that can (easily) bring us to tears. We knew it didn’t have to be that way.

Unless you’re lucky enough to have the help of a stylist, when you go to a department store you’re at the mercy of a salesperson, and the experience you have can be a total crapshoot. When left on your own, your personal undergarment arsenal looks a little like this: 15 bras, when you only actually wear 2 of them; a drawer full of underpants that you were told all do something special, but you can’t quite remember which one to wear when.

I knew Jamie and I were onto something. Studies show that about 80% of women don’t like their bra, or even think it fits them properly. So basically, women feel the same way about their bras as they do about that bad boyfriend or co-dependent relationship. (Believe me, I went through those kinds of relationships in my teens and my 20s and know how dark that can be.)

And then came this. It was our “a-ha” moment. A lightbulb went off for both of us and we thought, why don’t we do this? Why don’t we create our own line? Jamie and I have been rigging and customizing everything for our clients anyway, so we know what works. And most importantly, real women are in this struggle too, and they deserve the support.

So, here we are now, and I’m finally beginning to see the results of not coming up for air over this past year. We’re really doing it!

I’m not going to lie and say it was easy. These past 2 years have been some of the most challenging and difficult of my life. Getting older. Realizing I wasn’t feeling fulfilled by the only job I’ve ever known. Struggling with the fact that being a stylist was such a big part of my identity and yet I felt there was so much more I had to offer. Changing careers. Shifting identities and struggling to define what that is when you don’t have anyone to show you. Figuring out money—how to get it and who to get it from. Figuring out branding—what we love and what makes sense. Figuring out our team—who is excited and passionate and who is ready to hustle every single minute of every single day. Figuring out the new age of marketing and what that all means. Constructing this brand and every last facet of it: who we are, what we believe in, what we want to say, and how we’re going to say it.

Figuring out how businesses work with a partner is also a whole new thing for me. Other than marriage, I’ve never worked alongside someone. I’ve either worked for someone or people have worked for me. This “partner” thing was something totally new that I had to learn on top of everything else! Jamie and I have shared so many different experiences and emotions: tears, laughter, frustration, satisfaction, pride, and too many bloody headaches to count. But at the end of the day, she is the perfect balance for me, and I thank God I have her. The yin to my yang.
